ARTIST STATEMENT

I am an educator, dancer and choreographer; all of which create my artistic progression. Coming from an array of training and professional experiences in ballet technique, jazz dance and musical theatre; my work is a mergence of all these forms.  I use rhythms and musicality within my work, representative of jazz; as well as a strong sense of aesthetic representative of classical ballet. I value classical technique for strength and stability within the work; in junction with the emergence of the personal element. Iā€™m compelled to push the boundaries of technique and comfort levels within dancers, boundary-less performers. Although my movement qualities may focus on form and velocity, my point of convergence is to transcend barriers. Experimentation and collaboration in the work far exceed any element of dictatorship within the rehearsal process. Cultivating an environment for dancers to explore their voice within the technical training is of importance to me.  There is a responsive reciprocity within my work that is humanistic and all-inclusive in context to our lives and relationships. Performers establish a focus of growth, in an avenue of choice, while an observer is an active member along the journey through the process of intent. Inclusion is important and my work invites you in to explore; there is no wrong way to receive this work. We are bombarded with rules and structures throughout our environment; so I am interested in breaking them and exploring that meaning. Dance transcends through boundaries, it does not create them.
